Academics

Junior High Science Symposium

Seventh grade students had the opportunity to compete at the Putnam County Science Symposium on Saturday, February 7, at the Kalida High School Auditeria. Kalida students achieved multiple awards. The seventh grade students that participated are: Cohen Unverferth, Lawson Brinkman, Henry Wehri, Jenna Unverferth, Kyla Unverferth, Natalie Recker, Lilian Krouse, Graciella Flemmons, Kaley Dickman, Brynleigh Michel, Kensley Smith, Evie Slusser, Colt Schumacher, Ayden Unverferth, Trenton Kahle and Case Wortkoetter.

  • Chemistry Award - Lawson Brinkman & Henry Wehri
  • Medical Award - Kaley Dickman
Perfect Score: Trenton Kahle and Case Wortkoetter's research project on bowling velocity earned a perfect score, 3 awards and $200 in scholarships. They received the following awards:
  • Engineering & Physics Award
  • Sight-Related Award
  • Young STEM Excellence Award

We realize all the additional hours of research and preparation the students put forth to present these projects and are proud of all their accomplishments. They exemplify the standards we have been focusing on throughout this year: Student Achievement, Student Growth and Student Well-Being! Congratulations to all the students!
 

Buckeye Boys and Girls State Delegates Selected Soon

Juniors have the opportunity to complete applications, if interested, for Buckeye Boys’ and Girls’ State. Young men and women around Ohio will be learning about city, county and state government processes. Each participant becomes a part of the operation of a local, county, and state government. At American Legion Buckeye Boys State and American Legion Auxiliary Buckeye Girls State, participants are exposed to the rights, privileges, duties and responsibilities of a franchised citizen. Activities include legislative sessions, court proceedings, law enforcement presentations, assemblies, a band, and recreation. High School juniors are selected by local American Legion Posts and Units to attend the weeklong event.

Buckeye Boys’ State is held on the Campus of Miami University June 14 –June 21, 2026.
Buckeye Girls’ State is held at Bowling Green State University June 7—June 13, 2026.

FFA News

FFA State Degrees

Congratulations to the following young men who achieved their State FFA Degree. They will be formally awarded at the Ohio State FFA Convention that runs from April 30 to May 1.

Key Requirements for Ohio State FFA Degree:
  • Membership & Education: Active member for at least 24 months, holding the Chapter Degree, and at least two years of systematic school instruction in agricultural education.
  • SAE Investment/Earnings: Must have earned and productively invested at least $2,000, or have earned at least $3,000 and worked 300 hours in excess of scheduled class time.
  • Leadership & Activities:
  • Participate in at least eight different FFA activities above the chapter level.
  • Demonstrate leadership abilities by performing ten parliamentary law procedures.
  • Give a six-minute speech.
  • Serve as an officer, committee chairperson, or active committee member.
  • Community Service: Perform at least 25 hours of community service in at least two different activities.
  • Scholarship: Maintain a satisfactory scholastic record (often 2.0+ GPA or top 40% of class).
  • Application: Submission of a completed, accurate application. The application and evaluation process occurs early in the calendar year, with awards presented at the State Convention in May.
 

FFA CDE Competitions

On Tuesday, February 17, Nathan Wannemacher, Adam Bockrath, Josh Schulte and Evan Langhals competed in the Ag Sales CDE competition at Paulding High School. The Ag Sales CDE is a competitive event where students develop and demonstrate real-world sales skills through product knowledge, customer relations, and persuasive communication. Participants complete activities such as sales presentations, customer prospecting, real customer interactions, and making the sale to practice their ability to market agricultural products to customers. Great job setting an example to your peers and building your futures!
 

FFA Officer Book State Awards

Congratulations to our officers on their officer books!! Reporters, Addelyn Brinkman and Kenadi Bockrath and our Secretary, Enna Meyers received a gold rating. Treasurer, Brant Bockrath received a bronze rating. The gold rated books will be recognized at FFA State Convention on the big stage and receive an award! Students spent a lot of time preparing these. Congratulations on a job well-done!!
Officer books are records these FFA officers keep to document meetings, activities, goals, and accomplishments throughout the year. They help track our chapter’s progress, preserve memories, and ensure a smooth transition for future officers while also laying out a strong foundation for our program! #ag #FFA #greatertomorrow

KHS Bloodmobile Success

The next Bloodmobile at Kalida High School is set for March 12, 2026 from 10 AM to 3 PM. Please consider donating, if you are able. If you would like to donate blood, you should schedule an appointment. Appointments are every 15-minutes. To schedule, you can use the Red Cross Blood Donor App, go to redcrossblood.org, or let contact Mrs. Grime at the high school know what time you are thinking and she can schedule it for you.

Substitute Bus Route/Extra-Curricular Driver Opening


Kalida Local Schools is looking to add Bus Drivers to their Substitute Route/Extra-Curricular Driver listing. Qualified candidates must hold or be eligible to achieve the valid and appropriate licensure with the Ohio Department of Education & Workforce (ODEW). If interested please contact Dean Brinkman, Superintendent, ka_supt@kalidaschools.org or call 419-532-3534 to apply or inquire about information on how to obtain your Class B CDL with School Bus/Passenger Endorsement.
